With 7 faculties (Alba Regia Technical Faculty, Bánki Donát Faculty of Mechanical and Safety Engineering, Kandó Kálmán Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Keleti Károly Faculty of Business and Management, John von Neumann Faculty of Informatics, Rejtő Sándor Faculty of Light Industry and Environmental Engineering, Ybl Miklós Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering), more than 11,000 students (650 international), 900 employees with 580 teaching staff, Obuda University (OU) is one of the largest and strongest technical universities in Hungary.

OU has practice oriented Bachelor, theory and practice-based Master, and application-focused PhD programs. Runs high-level vocational training, distant learning, professional extension courses, and offers a wide spectrum of other educational opportunities: various levels of national and international courses, dual and cooperative education, soft skill and language skill development trainings, practical knowledge coaching, open days, job fairs, etc. OU runs 4 Doctoral Schools (Applied Informatics and Applied Mathematics, Materials Sciences and Technologies, Safety and Security Sciences, Innovation Management).

OU launches general technical higher-level vocational training, where specialisation in mechanical engineering, electrotechnics and electronics, light industry, printing, environmental engineering, water management can be attained. In order to strengthen the practice-oriented education and cooperation with the industry (involving company representatives into the education, closer industrial collaborations, common courses, open days, job fairs, dual and cooperative education), OU has implemented curriculum development in numerous fields for the last years (blended, MOOC, etc.). Regional education centres in Kisvárda and Salgótarján were launched, and the development of students’ entrepreneurial skills is put in focus. In the course of our developments, we take these needs into account as they also foster the employability of our students. We offer our institutional partners STEM, HEI development, international education development, soft skill development and engineering teacher development.

OU maintains international relations with around 270 higher education institutions and research institutes in some 90 countries, and coordinates several student, academic, and staff exchange programs.

OU is the founder of the Hungarian STEM platform launched in 2018, supported by the EU STEM Coalition, aiming to coordinate the various national programmes for STEM, currently reaching thousands of students and teachers. www.stemhungary.com.

Taking into account international trends and needs in the field of engineering education, OU launched its own MOOC platform in 2014. The Carpathian Basin Online Education Center (K-MOOC) now has 23 national and 14 international partners (https://www.kmooc.uniobuda.hu).OU brings its expertise in development of e-learning materials, and in technical teacher training, coaching and mentorship with a focus and know-how on pre-service upper secondary technical/vocational STEM teachers as added value into projects.

OU’s Trefort Ágoston Centre for Engineering Education (TMPK) is a unique development centre in Hungary in the field of engineering pedagogy, new methodologies and trainings. The Centre offers postgraduate course for Mentor training and HVT courses for Instructor on practice and Assistant of specialised training. https://tmpk.uni-obuda.hu/

OU has three Scientific Industrial Parks (SIPs) under construction in the following domains: Future Technology and Innovation Park in Zsámbék), Mechatronics Science and Innovation Park in Székesfehérvár, and the Smart Industry Scientific Industrial Park in Kaposvár. The SIPs have their own Education, Tech transfer and Service Centres, and assist start-ups by developing innovative solutions and provide new educational opportunities in their municipality and neighbourhood for young people interested in the technical field.
